Hiking - Walking: Woolverstone to Pin Mill Wind Direction: Wind Stength: Surf / Sea State: Air Temperature: Sea Temperature: Weather: Mainly cloudy Max Speed: Distance Covered: 4.25 miles (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise)
Thursday 7th March - walk **** β Woolverstone to Pin Mill β fairly
cloudy.
The day started foggy again so I got up early and had a ride around
Felixstowe to take some pics to send to the weather but as I am out of
favour at the moment I might have a few days off! I was surprised to see a
big red ball in the sky as the sun made an appearance around 6.45 through
the gloom. I headed to the pier and then out along Gulpher Road to get some
foggy trees, then home to continue my lay-in and do Wordle:)
I had hoped to go windsurfing today especially as it was supposed to be
wall to wall sunshine with a good breeze from the east, the wind arrived
but sadly the sun only came out in patches and as the cold still has not
cleared and it was only around 8 degrees at most I decided to give it a
miss today and not keen on ann open sea session this early inn March, shame
really as itβs a good direction for The Dip and east is not the best at
Levington and I have parking issues there at the moment:) As we had
something to do in Ipswich I decided to pack the usual picnic and we
actually drove over the Orwell Bridge parking up on the road down to
Woolverstone marina for a walk to Pin Mill. This is a top walk and is
recommended and as usual with a lot of footpaths here in Suffolk it was
very muddy in places! You walk past the lovely church and right in front of
the impresive Ipswich School with tis daff and sheep then down past a small
lake and farmland which leads down to the banks of the River Orwell
opposite Nacton. Arriving at Pinn Mill, a quant hamlet famous for its pub,
houseboats and old barges, the tide was really low and I had a long walk
out on the wooden jetty before we enjoyed our picnic on new benches on the
small green with a small stream running right by our feet, just lovely!
Thenn after lunch we continued past the busy pub the the Nationnal Trust
platation, a small wooded area and onto the boat graveyard, a well known
spot for local photographers with a group of wrecks in the mud, which I did
my best to get stuck in! We then started back turning right and following
the Orwell which leads to Woolverstone Marina with the Orwell Bridge as a
backdrop and the path was particularly muddy along there. The Coastguard
were training and we noticed that the marina sold calor gas which we have
had trouble getting of late so returned to the vann to drive back and get a
refill:) Then home via Levinngton Marina to check the parking situation and
also had a look at The Dip which looked very nnice for a sail, probably
just needs to be a few degrees warmer!
Home for a cuppa and it was nice to find Meava there with her mum, she was
very pleased to see us β what a top day again, Suffolk is wonderful:)
